SECRET
POLICY COMMITTEE
Thursday, 17th July 1941

Present:

Minister

D.G.

D.D.G.

P.S.

Lord Davidson

Mr. Radcliffe

Mr. Bomford

Mr. Gates

Mr. Ogilvie

Mr. Ryan

Mr. Herbert

Mr. Waddell (Secretary)

1. The minutes of the meeting on 3rd July were taken as read and approved. The Minister referred to his statement the previous day about the National Anthems of the Allies; said that the question of an invasion exercise was for the present in abeyance; and that Sir Walter Citrine and Mr. Bevin had been unwilling to contribute statements for circulation in Latin America.

2. B.B.C. ACCOMMODATION

Mr. Ogilvie reported that in order to relieve overcrowding and provide for expansion up to March 1942 the B.B.C. were still short of 11,000 sq. ft. of security accommodation in or near Bush House. He pointed out that of the 30,000 sq. ft acquired by the B.B.C. in the Public Trustee Office only 4,700 represented security accommodation. The names and work of the firms occupying other space in Bush House were under examination with a view to recommending removals.

3. POSSIBLE PEACE OFFENSIVE

It was agreed that D.G. should arrange a meeting to be attended by the Minister to discuss with Sir Gerald Campbell the issues which might arise for publicity in America in the event of a Russian collapse followed by a peace offensive.
