52. Minutes of Last Meeting

(37) Position of re-organisation discussed. (Chart attached).

(40) Sir Walter Monckton will see Air-Marshal Pierse. Lord Birkenhead will come for an interview.

(51) D.S. to have note drafted.

53. Paper Shortage

Mr. Peake proposed to sub-edit Departmental handouts to reduce the waste of paper. Suggested that Departments should be invited to use the Clip Sheet as the method of circulating new information.

Complaints about the Foreign Press Review referred to. Agreed nevertheless that it appeared to be wanted and that there was reason to print it on one side of the paper only. Circulation to be looked into, and Members of Parliament in particular to be told that unless we hear from them that they wish to receive it, we shall not continue to send it. Mr. Bamford to look into this and report.

54. Pamphlets

Sir Kenneth Clark referred to papers circulated. He considered picture pamphlets much better than leaflets. Certain delays in production were mentioned and it was agreed that a report should be made on the length of time taken to get each pamphlet out. Deferred for next meeting.

55. Posters

To be brought up at next meeting.

D.G. thought it probably wise to do a certain amount of posting in the summer on Road Accidents. Sir Kenneth Clark was in favour of large background posters. D.S. referred to the Treasury objection to expenditure of money on background posters.

56. Broadcasting

Sir Kenneth Clark observed that Admiral Somerville's broadcasts were very popular. He seemed to be suitable for use if an emergency arose.
