1. REPORTS FROM SERVICE ADVISERS.

2. MINISTRY ATTENDANCE AT NEWSREEL SHOWINGS .

[F/160/5 21/8]

The D.D.G. reported that a test check had recently been made of the attendance at an official newsreel showing, in order to discover whether there was substance in the suggestion that unauthorised persons were in the habit of attending. It had been found that a certain number of officials of the Ministry were in fact present without newsreel passes, though in most cases not without plausible reasons. He explained that the arrangements for the issue of newsreel passes were not, and probably could not be, based on any uniform standard, but it was for consideration whether greater strictness should be observed in their issue. The Board endorsed the Chairman's view that, while attendance must be limited to pass-holders, it was in general desirable that officers of the Ministry should keep themselves acquainted with the newsreel output, and that, subject to the limitations of space, no additional restriction should be imposed on the issue of passes.
