1. REPORTS FROM SERVICE ADVISERS.

2. LORD BURLEIGH'S VISIT TO STOCKHOLM.

[FP/16/96]

Mr. Grubb reported that the British Council had asked the Ministry's support in securing an air priority for Lord Burleigh to visit Stockholm in connection with a forthcoming athletic meeting; that the Ministry of Aircraft Production were reluctant to release Lord Burleigh from his duties for more than a few days; but that the Swedes were expected to be disappointed if the invitation were not accepted. Mr. Grubb recalled that air passages to Sweden were severely restricted during the summer months; and the Parliamentary Secretary felt that we ought to brace ourselves to the possibility of Swedish disappointment. It was agreed that the Ministry could not support the application and that the British Council should be so advised.

3. RADIO NATIONAL .

[B/56]

Mr. Gates reported that the Security Executive were considering a newly established German medium wave radio station called “Radio National”, broadcasting to this country on lines reminiscent of the early NBBS transmissions. It was for consideration whether any action should be taken to expose the character of this station, and the Ministry's view was required. It was recalled that a similar question had arisen in connection with both NBBS and the Workers’ Challenge Station, and that the decision to take no action in these cases was felt to have been justified. The Board agreed that nothing was to be gained by drawing attention to Radio National, and that its transmissions, if they could by judged by the sample submitted, were not likely to be taken seriously by any listeners.

N.B. No Minutes have been issued since July 26th, 1943.

THERE WILL BE NO MEETTING OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD ON SATURDAY, JULY 31ST, NOR ON MONDAY, AUGUST 2ND.
