1. REPORTS FROM SERVICE ADVISERS .

2. GERMAN INVASION PREPARATIONS IN 1940.

[LE/79/11.]

The Information Secretary asked for guidance on a request from an American feature syndicate for the release of new material for an article or articles on the enemy's preparations for the invasion of this country in 1940 and the various actions taken to frustrate them. It was for consideration (l) whether this was a subject on which the Ministry should request appropriate material from the Services; (2) if so, whether it deserved wider scope than newspaper articles. Mr. Cruikshank pointed out that Britain's reaction to her plight in 1940 was a permanent theme in our publicity in America which such material would valuably reinforce.

It was felt that the story was not particularly suitable for home consumption at the present time, but that, in the form of articles, it was eminently suitable for America; and Mr. Cruikshank was invited to pursue the project with the Service Advisers.
