Victory (Europe) Day

D.D.G. raised the question of what Ministry machinery would be required to function on Victory (Europe) Day. It was assumed that minimum skeleton staff would be required during the official holiday that is to follow the announcement of V.E. Day, except in Divisions concerned with Press matters, such as Censorship and Photographs. Their services might be required at full strength for there was no indication that newspapers intended to cease publication. In Britain and overseas press business would in any case continue. Controllers were asked to consider the requirements of work in their Divisions during the period of the official V.E. holiday. An Establishment circular on the subject would subsequently be issued.
