1. The minutes of the meeting on the 18th March were taken as read and approved.

2. BROADCASTING TO NORTH AFRICA .

The D.G. referred to a Committee consisting of representatives of the P.I.D., Foreign Office, the F.O. News Department and this Ministry to direct French broadcasts, particularly to North Africa. He understood that Sir Maurice Peterson and the Minister did not care for the suggestion and said he would represent this view if he were called upon by Sir John Anderson.

3. “IT ALL DEPENDS ON ME”

The D.G. referred to suggestions coming from the Minister of Labour that this scheme should be dropped or restricted in application. It was understood that the connection of Mr. Colston with the Ministry was being severed in any event.

4. INVASION: ATTACK ON LONDON

Sir Kenneth Clark reported that it had now been decided to give a special warning in the event of attack on London, and said that at the meeting which discussed this Air Vice Marshal Peck had said it would be possible to use wireless for “dewarning”. Mr. Wellington said he thought the first move by the Air Ministry in relaxing restrictions on broadcasting would be to extend the two minute per half hour periods to five minutes.
