SECRET
EXECUTIVE BOARD
Tuesday, 15th July 1941

Present:

D.G.

D.D.G.

P.S.

Lord Davidson

Mr. Radcliffe

Mr. Bamford

Nr. Gates

Mr. Waddell (Secretary)

1. The minutes of the meeting on 11th February were taken as read and approved. The D.D.G. reported that the Treasury were now considering other names besides Professor Rushbrook Williams for the post of assistant to Captain Lyttleton on publicity in the Middle East.

2. BROADCAST BY THE QUEEN

It was agreed that the suggestion from the B.B.C. Empire Service for a broadcast by the Queen on the anniversary of the first arrival of evacuated children in Canada should not be supported by the Ministry; it was felt that the occasion could hardly be regarded as of sufficient importance.

3. TRANSMISSION OF GUIDANCE TO POSTS ABROAD

The D.D.G. reported a suggestion from the Ambassador at Ankara that since Guidance Telegrams in the Empax series generally arrived too late to be of any practical effect it might be worthwhile to develop arrangements for normal B.B.C. News Bulletins and commentaries to include indication of the line to be taken.

[FP/2076/4]

[B/7]

It was agreed that this suggestion would have to be considered when a Controller of Overseas Publicity had been appointed.

4. SALARIES IN SIR GERALD CAMPBELL'S ORGANISATION

The D.G. agreed to discuss with Mr. Bamford later in the morning the approach to be made to the Treasury on the question of salaries.

It was also agreed that Lord Davidson should discuss with Sir Gerald the possibility of Mr. John Rodgers being appointed to a post in his organisation.
