1. REPORTS FROM SERVICE ADVISERS.

2. ALLIED MILITARY GOVERNMENT IN SICILY . (See Minutes of July 22nd)

[N/44]

The Chairman gave the Board further particulars of the Allied Military Government organisation and its relation to plans for other proposed administrations, both in enemy territory and in the liberated territories. He directed that the Ministry should not pursue its efforts to publicise either the organisation now in being or those contemplated for the future, and that sufficient news of the Allied Military Government's activities might be expected to be provided by any factual reports from the spot. Brigadier Neville reported that, in order to deal with the numerous enquiries on the subject, the War Office were considering the issue of a short hand-out defining the scope and limitations of the Allied Military Government in Sicily. The Chairman requested that this should be submitted to him in draft.

In this connection, Mr. Ryan enquired whether there was any objection to publicity being given to the contents of the booklet supplied to some of the Allied troops in Sicily. It was agreed that references to its contents in general terms would be in order, but that verbatim quotations should be avoided.
