2 . CHINESE ANNIVERSARY.

[FP/ 197/5.]

Mr. Grubb recalled that July 7th was the anniversary of the outbreak of war between China and Japan; that this anniversary was made much of in China; and that the celebration of it in this country last year had been exploited with great success in our propaganda towards the Chinese. The Far Eastern Division was anxious to ensure that some similar activities should be undertaken this year, of which continuing advantage could be taken; and had pointed out that this would also assist in keeping the war in the Far East in the public eye. The Board, although appreciating the force of these arguments, felt that Ministry sponsorship of anything on the grand scale would be neither feasible nor justifiable. It was agreed, however, that support and assistance should be offered to any schemes initiated by the recognised voluntary societies, and that sympathetic consideration should be given to any concrete proposals put up to the Ministry.
