Mr. Kirkpatrick

1. The minutes of the meeting on 15th August were taken as approved.

2. The Service Advisers reported on the day’s news.

3. PRIME MINISTER'S JOURNEY

It was agreed that General Tripp should see Captain Ricci during the morning and warn him of any points which, in the opinion of the Admiralty, it would be dangerous for him to mention when he spoke to the Press on 17th August. He would, however, be confining his remarks in any case to the actual meeting and say nothing about the journey.

The Service Advisers, Mr. Nash and Mr. Seddon then left the meeting.

4. PUBLICITY IN BRITAIN FOR FRENCH AFFAIRS

Sir Kenneth Clark suggested that more use might be made in Home propaganda of the latest Vichy decrees. Agreed that, in view of the slender nature of our information and the danger of provoking anti-French feeling, this was inadvisable.

5. PUBLICITY ARRANGEMENTS FOR THREE POWER MEETING IN MOSCOW

In reply to Mr. Francis Williams, D.D.G. said that it would be advisable, in view of existing arrangements with Sir Stafford Cripps, to do as much as possible to discourage diplomatic correspondents who applied for permission to go to Moscow for this meeting.
