MINISTRY OF INFORMATION EXPENDITURE ( excluding Postal and Telegraph Censorship )

1. As agreed at the Board meeting on 23rd May, the following statement is circulated for information.

2. The Ministry's expenditure is mounting rapidly. The rate of increase is indicated by the following comparative figures for two six-month periods:-

3. The total rate of expenditure is now approaching £4,000,000 a year. The following schedules, based on recent records of expenditure, indicate approximately the amounts which are being spent for home and for overseas purposes respectively, viz:-

For Home £1,692,000
For Overseas £2,006,000
Total £3,698,000

4. It should be clearly understood (a) that the items include certain apportionments between home and overseas (e.g. of salaries and common service expenditure of Production Divisions) and (b) that the amounts shown are taken from records of recent quarters and should not be treated as precise estimates of a full year's expenditure. The references (A.1 etc.) show the subheads of the ministry's vote to which the expenditure is charged.
