SECRET
EXECUTIVE BOARD
Friday, 25th July, 1941.

Present:

D.D.G.

P.S.

Lord Davidson

Mr. Radcliffe

Mr. Gates

Mr. Tree

Mr. Waddell (Secretary)

1. The minutes of the meeting on 23rd July were taken as read and approved.

2. ACCOMMODATION

Lord Davidson referred to the bad conditions in which some of his staff had to do their work. It was understood that the Parliamentary Secretary and the D.D.G. were attending a meeting the following week to settle whether the Ministry would have use of the School of Oriental Studies.

3. HOME GUARD AND A.R.P.

The D.D.G. said that about another fifty recruits were required for the Ministry's Home Guard and A.R.P. Services. It had been suggested that a personal letter should be addressed to each new entrant to the Ministry and also to members of the present staff who had not yet volunteered. It was agreed that there could be no objection to either letter, presuming that the wording of the one to existing members of the staff made clear that if valid reasons could be advanced against volunteering no pressure would be applied. It was understood that the average times of duty involved in each service was about 4 hours in every nine days. The D.D.G. took note of the fact that some members of the staff who had already volunteered had not been told anything further.
