SECRET
EXECUTIVE BOARD.
Wednesday, 23rd July, 1941.

.D.G.

D.D.G.

Lord Davidson.

Mr. Radcliffe.

Mr, Bamford

Mr. Gates.

Mr. Tree.

Mr. Waddell (Secretary)

1. The minutes of the meeting on 22nd July were taken as read and approved.

2. Delays due to Service Departments.

The D.G. reported that the Minister was anxious to take up at once any major questions on which objection by the Service Departments appeared to be hindering unnecessarily the work of the Ministry, and Lord Davidson promised to report on questions connected with films.

3. Publication of names of men in Services.

The D.G. said it might be possible to persuade the Service Departments to release the names of men concerned in stories of exploits by serving men, and it was agreed that Mr. Radcliffe should prepare a paper on which the Minister might be asked to make representations to the Secretaries of State and the First Lord.

[N/105/3]

4. B.B.C. Mr, Bamford reported that he was to discuss that day with Mr. Beadle the questions relating to the enquiries of the Kennet Committee and also priorities so far as the B.B.C. was concerned. The D. G. referred to discussion with the Governors about these questions, and about accommodation; and emphasised the need to press the B.B.C. for recommendations on specific action that ought to be taken.

5. The “V” Sign. Mr. Tree reported that the Minister had, the previous evening, been undecided about the reply which should be returned to the Question for answer in the House that day. It was agreed that in the circumstances the advice of the Board should be to answer on the lines recommended to the Parliamentary Secretary in Item 4 of the Minutes of the meeting on 22nd July.
