Appendix 3 - Sunday Travelling

About 22% of the sample used the public transport services on the previous Sunday during January, 1943. It must be remembered that this is a winter figure and further that public pressure against unnecessary travel may have reduced the number willing to admit Sunday travel for purposes not considered vital.

About 47% of those who used the transport services on these Sundays said that they did so for work or civil defence and Home Guard. This figure amounts to about 10% of the sample, leaving about 12% of the sample who travelled for other purposes.

The greatest proportions travelling on Sunday were in Scotland, London and South Wales
