The extent to which Miners and their Wives come from Mining Families

The following table indicates that four out of every five miners come from mining families, in that their fathers were miners before them, and that nearly the same proportions of miners’ wives came from mining families.

A considerable proportion of the non-mining parents in the coalfields also came from mining families.

In general, the figures agree very closely with data on the same subject derived from a survey of Scottish Mining Communities, which was carried out by the Social Survey in 1945.
